A discussion meeting was held at Royal University of Dhaka on Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day. The discussion meeting was held in the university auditorium on Saturday (February 24) morning. This meeting was held under the chairmanship of University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mesbah Kamal, distinguished journalist Abu Saeed Khan, advisory editor of Dainik Samakal newspaper was present as a guest speaker. Sheikh Hasina University of Science and Technology Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Prafulla Chandra Sarkar delivered a speech as a special guest. Premier Bank Additional Managing Director Syed Nowsher Ali and National Cardiac Institute and Hospital Head Cardiac Surgeon Professor AKM Manjurul Alam were present as special guests. Ekushey medalist, famous poem reciter Shimul Mustafa, Chhaynat teachers Jannat-e-Ferdausi and Biman Chandra Biswas and Salma Munni dance instructor of National Arts Academy, were present as guest artists in the event. Journalist Abu Saeed Khan said that language-based nationalism has developed in this country. Ekush’s consciousness will fade if we cannot build a non-discrimination society. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mesbah Kamal said, the young generation should be inspired by non-sectarian spirit. Democracy will not be established if we cannot ensure the equal rights of all people as human beings, not in terms of numbers. University students should be respectful of all the mother tongues of the world. In this context, he also said that 50 ethnic groups have already been recognized in Bangladesh under the guidance of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, People’s Leader Sheikh Hasina. He also said, Ekush is our belief, with the belief that we have fought fearlessly and won in all national struggles. May we never forget our existence. Professor Dr. Prafulla Chandra Sarkar said, Mother Language Day is celebrated in 193 countries around the world. In his speech, he analyzed the theoretical analysis of different language combinations and ethnic integration. Syed Nowsher Ali said, the importance of mother tongue should be understood. The English language should be practiced as well. He urged the students to take the country forward by being inspired by the spirit of Bengali nationalism. Professor AKM Manjurul Alam said that the practice and research of mother tongue Bengali should be increased. It is the responsibility of all of us to maintain the respect of our mother tongue. At the end of the program, cultural programs and quiz competitions were held on the occasion of International Mother Language Day. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mesbah Kamal and Ekushey medalist famous poem reciter Shimul Mustafa distributed prizes to the winners of the competition. The meeting was conducted by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts. Dipu Siddiqui, English Department Lecturer Yuki Barua and Tasmeena crorie. The speakers in the meeting said that the importance of standard language practice is immense to sustain the Bengali language. So we should be more careful about our mother tongue.
